Regency Health, Gorakhpur, marked a significant addition to its advanced healthcare services with the inauguration of its Department of Transfusion Medicine & Blood Centre.
Held on 25th September 2026 at Regency Hospital, Medical College Road, Gorakhpur, the centre was inaugurated by Chief Guest Shri Mahendra Pal Singh, MLA, Pipraich, in the presence of doctors, senior hospital management, department representatives, and hospital staff.
The inauguration marks an important step towards strengthening access to modern blood banking, transfusion medicine, and specialised immunohematology services in Gorakhpur and the surrounding region. Designed to serve patients 24×7, 365 days a year, the centre brings together whole blood and blood component services, advanced infection screening, modern ECLIA-based laboratory testing, and specialised immunohematology support, including blood group and Rh typing, antibody screening and identification, antiglobulin testing, and red cell antigen phenotyping, all under one department.
The centre also offers donor apheresis and single donor platelet services, along with dedicated support for patients requiring regular or complex transfusions, including those with Thalassemia and Anaemia. Its services extend to Patient Blood Management, Medical Apheresis, immunohematology support for pregnant women and newborns, and Autologous Platelet-Rich Plasma services as per clinical requirements.
The department is led by Dr. Ajay Kumar, Attending Consultant & Head, Department of Transfusion Medicine & Blood Centre, along with Mr. Sandeep Sharma, Unit Head, who have been instrumental in setting up the centre’s clinical and operational framework.
Beyond its clinical services, the initiative places strong emphasis on promoting voluntary blood donation through awareness programmes, blood donation camps, and donor counselling. During the inauguration, the Chief Guest highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation and appealed to eligible citizens to come forward and contribute towards saving lives.
The inauguration reflects Regency Hospital, Gorakhpur’s ongoing commitment to patient-centric healthcare, ensuring that patients requiring regular transfusions, specialised blood support, or emergency transfusion services have access to safe, reliable, and round-the-clock care, right in their own city.
