Pathology is a branch of medical science that examines the body fluids, tissue and organs to identify the disease process at the minute (microscopic) level, which helps doctors to diagnose or monitor disease and decide the suitable treatment plans.
Contrary to popular notion, pathologist does not only examine blood, urine & semen. They also do FNACS, biopsies & Bone marrow examination along with pre, intra & post-operative tissue examination. Based on the findings, the most probable diagnosis is made.
Sometimes further advanced investigation (IHC/molecular) or repeat investigation is advised. The microscope is the primary tool for a pathologist, along with so many other minor & major instruments.
When the reports are ready, your treating doctor will make a diagnosis based on the report in correlation with your sign & symptoms & then he will decide the most the appropriate treatment plan for you.
