As the largest organ in the body, the skin is a common source of problems. Throughout your life, one or more skin disorders are likely to affect you. This can be acne as a teenager or sun damage as you grow older.

Let’s find out about different types of skin disorders and how they impact you

Facial skin problems occur for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Genetics
  • Ageing
  • Viral, bacterial, or fungal infections
  • Exposure to the sun or other environmental elements

While the skin plays a very important role as a barrier to chemicals and other contaminants entering the body, skin disorders may disrupt this barrier function. Let’s find out the most commonly noticed skin problems caused to people:

Acne

Primarily, acne is one of the most common skin problems which can happen due to a lot of reasons. It is a condition that develops in and around the hair follicles and their oil-producing glands called the sebaceous glands. Although we have these glands all over the surface of our body, it is only on the face, chest, and back that acne develops. Acne starts to show up when tiny hair follicles or skin pores become clogged with oily secretions (sebum) from the sebaceous glands as well as keratin (a skin protein) often called a blackhead/white head. These plugged follicles can develop into swollen, red, tender pus bumps, or larger cysts or nodules that can cause temporary or permanent.

Secondly, acne is most common during the hormonal surge of adolescence but also affects 20 percent of adults. Some of the other reasons which can aggravate acne are poor hygiene, poor diet, and stress. If you’re dealing with acne regularly, though, it’s best to make an appointment with a dermatologist. They can check your blemishes and ensure that your condition is acne and not another similar condition, like rosacea.

Finally, your doctor may suggest one treatment or a combination for this skin problem solution, depending on the severity of your acne. Mild acne may be able to be treated with over-the-counter topical medicine in creams or gels. While severe acne can be treated with antibiotics and topical medication.

Eczema

Eczema is a skin condition that can occur at any time in life. It often starts early in childhood and may not diminish until early adulthood. Eczema is a chronic condition and it cannot be cured but can be treated under proper guidance from a physician.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease that involves the skin and nails. Moreover, it is associated with a number of comorbidities. The inflammation manifests in the skin as localized or generalized patches. These patches can be red, or dark, flaky, itchy, and scaly. Chronic psoriasis is a lifelong illness.

Rosacea

A chronic skin disease that causes persistent redness over the areas of the face and nose that normally blush. The tiny blood vessels in these areas enlarge (dilate) and become more visible through the skin, appearing like tiny red lines. Pimples that look like teenage acne can occur. Rosacea occurs most often between the ages of 30 and 60, especially in people with fair skin.

Hives

Hives are skin rashes that can be triggered by a variety of things including allergic reactions, medicines, or an infection. The common symptoms include a raised, bumpy red rash, with the bumps often looking more like normal skin color, which is often quite itchy.

Vitiligo

Vitiligo causes pale white patches on the skin that vary in size and can occur anywhere on the body.  Even Vitiligo on the scalp can make your hair go white. It is a long-term condition.

Thanks to modern technology, most patients no longer have to suffer from the irritating and sometimes disfiguring forms of these conditions. Moreover, taking adequate preventive measures and proper skin disorders treatment can help contain the spread or subsiding the symptoms of the above conditions.
