Glomerulonephritis.jpg

Glomerulonephritis occurs when the glomeruli are damaged or inflamed. These structures filter waste, excess salts, and fluids from the blood to produce urine. Inflammation reduces their filtering ability, leading to waste buildup, fluid retention, and other complications. Acute glomerulonephritis usually appears suddenly, often after infections such as streptococcal throat or skin infections. Chronic glomerulonephritis develops gradually over months or years and may result from autoimmune diseases, long-standing hypertension, or other causes of sustained kidney injury.

Kidneys are one of the most vital organs in the human body. They play an important role in filtering waste products, toxins, and excess fluid from the blood, which are then excreted through urine. Apart from this, kidneys also regulate electrolyte balance, maintain blood pressure, and help in red blood cell production. When the kidneys lose their ability to filter waste effectively, the condition is known as kidney failure or renal failure. It can develop suddenly (acute kidney failure) or gradually over time (chronic kidney disease). If left untreated, kidney failure can cause life-threatening complications.

The two kidneys in the human body are very vital organs required for our body to function properly. The kidneys filter out all the unwanted substances from the blood and pass it out as urine and keep the right number of electrolytes. The blood is filtered about forty times a day by the kidneys. When the blood is run through the kidneys, they filter out the waste and adjust the salt, minerals, water and essential vitamins as per the body’s requirement. The filtered blood circulates in the body collecting more impurities and waste produced by the body and carrying it to the kidneys, repeating the cycle.

About 65 million people worldwide suffer from mild to severe COPD and an estimated 12 million more are living with it unaware. Smoking tobacco is among one of its leading causes, though long-term exposure to chemical irritants can also lead to COPD. Tests that help in diagnosing the condition include lung (pulmonary) function tests, CT scan, chest X-ray, arterial blood gas analysis and some other laboratory tests.
